This photo of my little pink camellia was taken about 2 1/2 years ago. At that time it was quite small, but filled with flowers. Since that time, this scraggly little bush has grown into a beautifully shaped specimen a little over 4 feet tall. The leaves are smaller than the other, salmon-colored camellia we have, and the flowers are more compact with more petals.
Although I have done a considerable amount of searching, I have not been able to determine which variety it is. I really like it a lot, and would like to have several more to plant in various areas of the yard. Our salmon camellia is much older and bears seed pods each year, but this one has not had seeds that I have seen.
While checking the internet, I located the American Camellia Society which had instructions for propagation by cuttings. After gathering the needed supplies, today I trimmed the plant and potted 18 cuttings. After working for several hours in the heat of the day, I have gained a new appreciation for those who work in the nursery business. Anyway, there are a bunch of potted cuttings now on my porch and hopefully some of them will sprout roots. We should know within a couple months. Those that root will then be planted in larger pots and prepared for the winter months.
Wish me luck! I've never been much of a gardner and will need all the luck I can get.
