♪♫♪ Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah ♫♫ Zipadee-Ay ♪♫♪♫

Nearly five years ago, I purchased three small houses. This was apparently near the peak of the housing bubble as they seemed to be rather excessively priced. I bought them anyway and attributed their cost to being supposedly perfect for bluebirds. To my knowledge, they have never been touched by their intended inhabitants.

Last fall I happened to get my hair cut in a tiny town near Greensboro. There were a few small birdhouses on a table in the shop. They were made of rather thick cedar and appeared to be too small for a little chickadee. I decided to get one anyway and told the barber about my so-called bluebird houses. As I handed him the money for the little birdhouse he said, “Those were made for bluebirds”. A likely story, I thought.

A few weeks ago I thought I spied a chickadee looking through the door of the new little house. No problem, I like chickadees too. Then about a week later Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird started moving in and it appears they are here to stay. Please excuse my excitement, but this is the first time I have had any bluebirds build their nest in my yard. Unfortunately they have been very camera shy so far. If I ever get back to that town I will be buying more birdhouses whether I need a haircut or not.
